18 Yard Box brings for you the weekly dose of Premier League's Underperforming XI.
This week brought to us some interesting matches in which many players performed and many who did not live upto their reputation. But there are eleven players who stood out form the rest in terms of under performing (not a proud feat).
18 Yard Box's Rishabh Ghai has a look at this week's eleven worst players on the pitch.
Vito Mannone - GK (Arsenal)
Arsenal's third choice goalkeeper will have to work on his positioning. Picking up the ball three times out of his net is not what a goalkeeper would love to do. But this is what Mannone had to against a resurgent Fulham side. Although he could do little about the third goal, a penalty from Berbatov, but would had he got his positioning right for the first and the second he could have won his team the match. The second goal saw him palming the ball into his own net as he had to reach out for the ball which was not headed with tenacity.
Ciaran Clark (Aston Villa)- RB
The Villain right back had a tough time dealing with the likes of Young and later on Rooney on the right of United's midfield. Introduction of Chicharito later on in the match spoiled his reputation. Guilty of giving the ball too cheaply, Clark looked not at all convincing going forward and created absolutely no chances for his team.
William Gallas - CB (Tottenham)
The former Tottenham man escaped with a penalty decision which did not go against him when Aguero spun to strike his arm with his shot. Gave the ball too cheaply and was not at his best to control the likes of Aguero and Silva.
Brede Hangeland - CB (Fulham)
New to Premier League, Arsenal's Olivier Giroud looked much of threat as Hangeland was unable to keep him at bay. Losing his marker for Arsenal's equalizer, he handed the Gunners a lifeline to comeback into the match. He looked fairly alright in the first half but saw his performance take a dip in the second. As an experienced CB he did little to cause the Arsenal defence a problem during Fulham's set pieces.
Aleksandar Kolarov - LB (Manchester City)
Operating on the left hand side, Kolarov was the guilty party in losing Caulker for the opener. Saw his performance take a dip as the match progressed. Even his set pieces were not upto the mark.
Ashley Young - LW (Manchester United)
Looked like a fish out of water as he created little trouble for his former team. Was booed right from the start by the Villa supporters and was taken off during half time.
Gareth Barry - LCM (Manchester City)
Tried to keep the game flowing but was unable to feed Silva and Toure with the penetrating balls. Lost his concentration during the game and with his wayward passes gave away the ball cheaply in the middle of the park.
Mikel Arteta - RCM (Arsenal)
The Arsenal linchpin does not usually make this list but his gloomy performance makes him a member this time. Was guilty of giving a penalty by dragging Ruiz down in the box to help Fulham take the lead. Got a chance to win Arsenal the lead with the last kick of the game but spurned the opportunity by taking a poor penalty which the Fulham goalkeeper Schwarzer saved comfortably. He did not look particularly confident throughout the match and did not trouble the Fulham defence.
Aaron Lennon - RM (Tottenham Hotspur)
Usually a dominant force down the right, Clichy handled his pace well and made him look one dimensional. He did not trouble the City defence with his cut ins and had to work hard to find anything down the flanks.
Fernando Torres - ST (Chelsea)
He has got a habit of appearing on this list. Looked jaded against his former employers and did little to compliment the holy trinity of Oscar, Hazard and Mata. His runs looked unconvincing and he needs to better his positioning. With every performance he is showing why he needs to be transferred out of the Chelsea team.
Papiss Cisse - ST (Newcastle United)
Another striker who has made a habit of getting on this list. Unlike his previous season, his performances are leading the Toon party to believe that he is a one season miracle. Looked unconvincing throughout the game and did little to help his team to save any points.
