Benteke downs Liverpool
Beneteke was the man of the match |
Christian Beneteke was the orchestrator of Liverpool's downfall in a 3-1 shock defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
Liverpool's ailing home form in League continued as Benteke announced himself as one for the future in his side's 3-1 victory. The Kops struggled to keep the 22 year old Belgian out of the game as his two goals sandwiched Weimann's goal won the match for Aston Villa. Although Steven Gerrard deflected Glenn Johnson's shot with his head, it was too late for them as Liverpool wasted plenty of glorious opportunites thoughout the game.
This loss leaves Liverpool in the 12th spot whereas Villa climbed up to the 14th
City keep up the pace with League leaders
Toure again the saviour |
In what appeared to be an even contest, Manchester City came up with the all the 3 points against a well drilled Newcastle side.
The defending champions opened the scoring with Sergio Aguero finishing off a glorious pass from Samir Nasri. Javi Garcia doubled their lead before half time with a thumping header from a corner. Newcastle pulled one back at hour mark when Demba Ba headed from close range but City sealed the deal with a poacher-like goal from their talisman Yaya Toure.
Although the match ended 3-1 it was a much more even contest in the second half as Newcastle looked to be getting at the champions. However, at the end, City completed the job and kept their chase for the top spot within reach.
The Return of Vida
Vidic is back! |
Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic marked his return to the top flight football after 3 months in their 3-1 win over the Black Cats.
Robin Van Persie's calm finish followed by a curling finish from Tom Cleverly in the first 21 minutes gave United a 2-0 lead at half time. Wayne Rooney tripled United's advantage in the second half before Sunderland found a consolation goal from Frazier Campbell's 72nd minute headed effort at goal.
United kept their 6 point advantage alive in the League and welcomed back arguably their best defender, at present, Nemanja Vidic from a 3 month long injury lay off. The return of the Serbian will provide the much needed steel at the back United have been lacking all season. It was a pleasant sight for the supporters of the Red Devils as they welcomed Vidic with a thunderous round of applause.
